Brooklyn, New York : Sakura Matsuri 2015

If you happen to find yourself a little lost on the subway as to where to get off so that you don’t miss your stop going to Brooklyn’s Botanical Garden, have no fear.  Just simply follow Sailor Moon and her geisha friend, they will show you the way.  At least that was what I had to do and it was not in vain.

Sakura Matsuri takes place for one weekend every April at Brooklyn’s Botanic Garden where various activities celebrating traditional and contemporary Japanese culture can be enjoyed.  Thousands of attendees visit the garden to not just admire the beautiful blooms, but also marvel at the level of dedication cosplayers take in preparing their costumes for this special event.  A wide range of scheduled programs including Taiko drumming, tea ceremonies, Samurai sword fighting, Bonsai kids workshop, and many more are scheduled every hour throughout parts of the cherry blossoms’ garden.  Unfortunately, I did not stick around for any of these as I can no more tolerate being in large crowds than my cat can tolerate being put through a shower.  Hence the missing photos of previously mentioned events.

The entrance fee was $25(advanced ticket can be purchased online to avoid lines).  Subsequently, the garden sent a complimentary email offer for one year membership, which would have costed the same.  So win, win.

Stay tuned after the photo jump for the garden’s links and addional information.

Happy wandering!
